Lori M. Read - BIO

From the big-brassy stage bands in the early 80’s to the smaller jazz bands in the 90’s to solo work throughout her career, singer, song-writer Lori Read has been performing her way through life appearing in many communities in Ontario as well as destinations afar, such us Scotland, Wales, England and Mexico.

From 1980 to 1997, Lori provided lead vocals for John Tenkate's "The Ambassadors", one of the biggest dance bands in Southwestern Ontario, performing the jazz standards from the American Songbook of the 30’s, 40’s, 50’s and 60's, as well as many rock/pop cover songs. She could be seen regularly at Centennial Hall, Wonderland Gardens, and the 401 Club. Later she would work with John Montgomery's "A Touch of Brass", a 5 piece, local jazz band, frequenting such venues as The London Hunt Club, Sunningdale Golf and Country Club, The Dante Club of Sarnia as well as night clubs in Kitchener, Port Stanley, Kincardine, Hamilton and Toronto.

Lori has performed at Ontario Place, the Hamilton Jazz Festival and at the Royal York Hotel in Toronto for their New Year’s Eve extravaganzas.

During the 1990's, Lori performed in some of our elementary school classrooms in London Ontario teaching favourite classic children's songs and encouraging sing-along and dance movement to children ages 5 to 8.

Also during this same period, Lori taught part time, "Puppetry and Guitar for Educators", in the Early Childhood Education Program at Fanshawe College.

Over a 40 year span, Lori has performed at numerous wedding ceremonies, wedding receptions, engagement parties and other special events.

Fast forward to present day...

Two days before the mandatory evacuation in Ft. McMurray Alberta, in May 2016, Lori gave an outdoor concert for families, in Syne Park, next to the Athabasca River.  Smoke was seen rising from the Boreal Forest that encircles Ft. McMurray and concert goers were a bit concerned but unaware of what was to take place in the next 48 hours.

Lori performs in and around Southwestern Ontario.

Lori's subtle, non-invasive, in the background style, allows for easy conversation. If you catch her vibe, you can anticipate an evening of well-known 60’s, 70’s, 80's, 90's pop, jazz and blues covers. She may even sneak in a few originals and hopes to see you soon!

During the months of March and April, 2020, at the peak of the Corona Virus Pandemic, and the directive for self-isolation and social distancing, Lori recorded many songs from her Campfire Music for Kids program and added her Youtube Channel, "Campfire Music for Kids". Parents and Care-Givers can subscribe to this kid-friendly, fun, entertaining and educational channel to help fill the hours at home.
